The Golbat to Crobat evolution has one special requirement: raise Golbat to high friendship and then level it up. There is no stone, held evolution item, trade, or time window. If friendship is high enough when the level is gained, Golbat evolves into Crobat immediately.
Zubat first becomes Golbat by normal levelling, after which the friendship requirement controls the second evolution. That means the first stage and the second stage work very differently. Normal experience gets you to Golbat, but friendship is what unlocks the final step.
How to Raise Golbat Friendship
Keep Golbat in your party, travel with it, gain levels, and use friendship-friendly features available in your game. A Soothe Bell is useful where available because it boosts friendship gains. Avoid unnecessary fainting while you are deliberately building friendship, since that can work against your progress in games where fainting reduces it.
You do not need to save the Golbat to Crobat evolution for a specific level. A Golbat at a much higher level can still evolve later. If you have already used several Rare Candies without success, stop spending them and focus on friendship before trying another level-up.
Use a Friendship Checker Where Available
Many main-series games provide an NPC or other way to judge how friendly a Pokémon is. The wording differs by game, but it is more useful than guessing from the number of battles you have completed. Get Golbat to a strong friendship reading, then trigger one more level.
