Rockruff Evolution: All Lycanroc Forms
Rockruff evolution is unusual because Rockruff can become three different Lycanroc forms. The result depends on Rockruff’s Ability and the time of day when it reaches the required level, so it is worth checking the Pokémon before you spend the trigger level.
Midday and Midnight Lycanroc come from ordinary Rockruff, while Dusk Form requires an Own Tempo Rockruff. This Rockruff evolution guide explains all three paths, including the short evening window used for Dusk Form in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The normal Rockruff evolution begins at level 25. A Rockruff with Keen Eye, Vital Spirit, or Steadfast evolves into Midday Form Lycanroc when levelled during the day, or Midnight Form Lycanroc when levelled at night. The Pokémon must actually gain a level at the correct time.
Dusk Form is the exception. For that Rockruff evolution route, the Rockruff must have Own Tempo. An Own Tempo Rockruff does not turn into Midday or Midnight Form; it is the special form that can become Dusk Lycanroc during the game’s evening period.
How to Get Midday Lycanroc
Use an ordinary Rockruff and make sure it is at least level 25. Gain a level during daytime. There is no special stone or held item, and Own Tempo should not be the Ability if your target is Midday Form.
If you accidentally miss the day window, wait for the next one rather than levelling again at night. The Rockruff evolution checks the current time when the level is gained, which makes timing more important than the exact level once Rockruff has reached 25.
How to Get Midnight Lycanroc
Midnight Form also uses an ordinary Rockruff at level 25 or above, but the trigger level must happen at night. Again, an Own Tempo Rockruff is not the correct starting Pokémon for this branch.
This version of the Rockruff evolution is straightforward in games where the day and night cycle is easy to read. If you are uncertain whether the game has reached night, wait until the environment has clearly shifted before using an Exp. Candy.
How to Get Dusk Form Lycanroc
Dusk Form requires Own Tempo and an evening level-up. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, evening is a very short period of the 72-minute in-game cycle, lasting about three minutes. That narrow window is why Dusk Lycanroc is the easiest form to miss even when you own the correct Rockruff.
Check the Ability first, get Rockruff to level 25 or higher, then wait for evening and gain one level. The Rockruff evolution will not produce Dusk Form from a normal Rockruff, and an Ability Capsule or Ability Patch cannot turn an ordinary Rockruff into the special Own Tempo form.
Why Rockruff Is Not Evolving
The common problems are being below level 25, levelling at the wrong time, or using the wrong Rockruff form for Dusk Lycanroc. If the level-up happens outside the required time window, wait for the correct period and try again with another level.
For Dusk Form specifically, verify Own Tempo before doing anything else. That one check resolves most Rockruff evolution confusion because the special Rockruff looks like the ordinary form.
Choosing a Lycanroc Form

Does Lycanroc Need a Specific Level?
The special requirement described above is the part that controls the Rockruff evolution. If a minimum level is part of that method, it is stated in the relevant section. Otherwise, levelling by itself will not replace the required friendship, item, trade, battle condition, or game-specific trigger.
If you already have a high-level Pokémon, that does not mean you have missed the Rockruff evolution. Most special evolutions remain available later as long as the correct conditions can still be met in a compatible game.
The Rockruff evolution checklist is level 25+, correct Ability, and correct time: day for Midday, night for Midnight, or evening with Own Tempo for Dusk. Once those three pieces are aligned, one level-up is enough.
Because the Dusk window is short, prepare the Exp. Candy in advance. That turns the most awkward Rockruff evolution branch into a quick timing check instead of a long guessing exercise.
